Making an impact in the life of a child
is by far the most common motivator, but we see folks from all walks
of life getting involved for many reasons.
Completing a Family
Bringing a youth into your home can often bring richness to the family while
extending the existing family structure. Parents tell us that they value the
impact of helping at-risk youth has on their own children.
Mentoring
Sharing your life experiences and watching others learn and grow can have a very
fulfilling effect. Teachers, coaches, counselors and many other professionals
consider fostering a normal extension of their interests and talents.
Work at Home
Many stay-at-home parents enjoy the fact that they can bring a child into their
home while not incurring the expenses associated with working outside the home.
They consider it a mission first and foremost, but many consider it their work
at home as well.
Spiritual Enrichment
We believe that God gives us talents and gifts to share, and many parents use
their skills to fulfill a mission from God. James 1:27 says “Religion that
God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and
widows in their distress...”
Developmental Stage in Life
Many adults look for new meaning and purpose in their lives upon achieving certain
goals or after their children have grown up. As we get older we often gain a
new perspective about the future and what impact we will have on it. Foster care
and mentoring can be a profound way to accomplish meaning in our lives as well
as in the life of a young person.
Perhaps you hadn’t thought of fostering before, but we want you to know
that virtually anyone can make a lasting impact on a child’s future while,
at the same time, finding new personal fulfillment in your life. |
